A post to puzzle over, taken in Dublin today. One building superimposed on another, sky in the wrong place, and Facebook appearing on IG. I had to wait for the man in yellow to give some sense of scale and reality. Online it is easy to forget that the Internet giants must come down to earth somewhere and actually have a physical presence. Somewhere to pay tax, I suppose. Opened in 2009, Facebook’s international headquarters in Dublin now employs over 2000, spanning 68 nationalities. Listening this evening to a talk in London by Tim Berners-Lee, I was reminded that all this wonderful stuff (WWW and social media) has happened since 1989. His vision was that the technology should be open and non-proprietary, and he is now an advocate for affordable access globally, net neutrality, and data privacy. Facebook is supporting his initiative on global access. #Dublin %#shiny #Ireland #visitdublin #visitireland #Facebook #reflections #igersedinburgh #igmasters
