Im super late to the party with this one, but its important for my followers to know my story. Here's my R U OK day post || @ruokday ***
I've thought about suicide. I've thought about it more times than I can count. I've thought about self harm, and how pointless life is. But not anymore. After 10 years being on and off medication for depression and general anxiety disorder (GAD) this year I have finally started weaning off the meds. It's the best feeling in the world because I did it! I saw the light. I got better. And am continuing to get better. After 10 years of professional treatment and the help of medication, and an incredible support network who I can't thank enough - my family, my in-laws - the Samasuwo's (my in-laws) my closest friends and wonderful colleagues. I'm so lucky that those closest to me recognise when my behaviour isn't right and have asked if I want to talk or what's going on.  I am so optimistic about my future. About starting a family, how my career will progress, making memories with my parents growing older, my husband, my nephew, my brothers and their beautiful partners, my in laws and closest friends. I couldn't have done this all without you. No words will ever explain how important a support network is when going through mental illness. So just ask R U OK today. And every day. It could save a life. We had a great morning discussing mental health in the workplace, all whilst raising over $1000 for @ruokday. Some tips from our discussion included:
1. Be aware of the signs of mental health struggles, such as a change in behaviour or performance 
2. Ask the question - are you okay?
3. Be prepared to listen 
4. Encourage action, such as getting help
5. Look after yourself and exercise good self care - whatever that may mean for you.

There is such power in being honest and real.  A powerful healing release, which only becomes available by being vulnerable and sharing where we're truly at and how we truly feel.

There are so many times in my life that I haven't been OK. But through my amazingly supportive community of friends and family I have been able to say so. Been able to share, heal and grow. We all deserve that opportunity. The opportunity to be heard and heal. This organisation is making that opportunity easier and easier. Let's not just leave it to RUOKday to approach each other with love and healing heart. We can do that everyday, just by choosing it to be so.❀️πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ’œ
It really is ✨ We get so caught up with everything going on, that the gift of life is taken for granted. Stop and smell the roses 🌹 I am so grateful for everyone I have around me, supporting me, loving me ❀️ and the fact that I have them there to support and love back ❀️ I live in a beautiful city and I am so lucky for that 🌏 A positive attitude will change your life ✨ It ain't all that bad 🌞🌻
