1. First, identify your feelings for yourself. What are you actually feeling (often there is something under Anger). 2. Find a good time to talk about it, not when the other person or you has to rush off.
3. Express those feelings rather than the other person's behavior when opening the conversation. That looks something like, "I felt very hurt when ----". 4. Say it with an "I" statement rather than starting with a "You". They are less likely to be defensive if you are sharing your feelings rather than talking to them about them or their behavior.
5. Avoid saying "Always "or "Never" about the current situation. For example,"I feel (blank) when you cancel our dates last minute" will be more easily heard than "You ALWAYS do this!". 6. Now is not the time to bring up all the other things they do that bug you. That's called "carpet bagging." Don't pull everything out at once or you'll overwhelm the other. You won't be heard and it's also not nice to the other person. Bring up the current thing and stick to it.
7. Watch the tone you say it in. You have every right to your feelings. However, you have no right to express them in a derogatory manner. You get to own your feelings and they are yours. When we believe that we don't shout it. We speak it.
P.S These tools work whether it's our partner, our children, our boss/co-worker or anyone else. They just plain WORK! 😊

Happy #flexfriday peeps!! Life is a blessing, treat it as such. If you have air to breath, clean water and a running toilet you should be having a good day!! With all the craziness going on right now, it's a gracious reminder to appreciate the small things we usually take for granted!! Top 3 things I'm grateful for today 1.) my health 2.) ability to get off early and pick my son up 3.) living in such an amazing city! 🙌🏽💓☀️ #stayhumble #begracious #kindness #bepresent
