DID YOU KNOW Uterine fibroids occur in approximately 80% of women.

Uterine Fibroids are benign tumours that are often asymptomatic in many women - severe symptoms develop in 15 to 30% of cases. As oestrogen stimulates the growth of these benign tumours they are often diagnosed in women of reproductive age. When women hit menopause, oestrogen plummets and often fibroids tend to regress. Risk factors for developing uterine fibroids include obesity, early age of menstruation due to exposure of oestrogen, chronic inflammation, genetics and caffeine and alcohol consumption. The symptoms depend on size, location and the number of fibroids and can include, prolong bleeding, pressure, constipation, pelvic pain, anaemia and clotting during menstrual bleeding.
