I just wanna say to all the parents out there raising children on the spectrum, keep your chin up! I know you're exhausted. I know you're stressed. I know you're worried. I know you are giving and then giving some more. I know your neurotypical children are having to give above and beyond, too. I know it's likely putting a strain on your marriage. I know you wonder why. I know there are those of you who are raising multiple children on the spectrum. Those of you whose children are verbal and some who are nonverbal. I know you've cried more than you'd like to admit. I know there's been days you thought it was all a bad dream just to wake up to find that it is very real and very unfair. I know you celebrate every single victory/milestone no matter how small. It gives you hope, it keeps your spirit lifted. I know you may feel like the world doesn't allow your child to be who they are which can make you feel isolated. You may feel disconnected, stuck at home, unable to get out. There are days you are on cloud nine and encouraged while other days autism takes you back down to the harsh reality of things. It can try and hold you down there if you let it, don't let it. I know you've likely wondered what life would be like without autism. Moments you simply cannot get back and the heartache that can bring. Words you long to hear your child say with all your heart and soul. A touch, an embrace, a connection. You wonder what your child's future will look like. Their friendships, their school, their living situation. The excitement you get over your child trying a new food, less anxiety, embracing change without a meltdown, a word, a phrase, eye contact.
I feel you.
I hear you.
I know you.
Because I am you.
Don't give up! You are your child's voice. You are their strength when they are weak.
Keep on fighting, Warrior. You CAN do this! God is behind you, He's never left your side...
